Bacteria can produce colorful pigments that are either bound to the cell or secreted to the medium they are growing on or in. Bacteria can also be genetically modified to enhance pigment production or even to produce different pigments.
What can you do with these pigments?
Well, they are pigments right? so, naturally, you can paint your drawings with them (An alternative for the artists who wants to use natural paints). But there is more. Medical scientists have been already exploring the antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor, etc. properties of the bacterial pigments. That means, the same pigment that colors your painting could also save your life one day.
